Prasant Radhakrishnan is comfortable in multiple styles of music, with his background influencing his modern sound. With training in jazz and other improvisational styles of music, his range of knowledge allows him to convey different sounds through the saxophone - an instrument rare to the Indian classical field due to the difficulty of techniques needed to create the classic microtones of Indian music. About Prasant: Prasant Radhakrishnan is a versatile saxophonist steeped in both South Indian Classical (Carnatic) and jazz music. A disciple of Carnatic saxophone pioneer, “Padmashri” Dr. Gopalnath Kadri, Prasant had the privilege of apprenticing with him for several years since 1996. He had further training with Dr. T.R. Subramaniam as well as mentorships with other senior artists in India. His studies of jazz led him to express original music arising from both Carnatic and jazz as well as traditional Carnatic music on the saxophone. Prasant has shared this music around the world through albums, performances, artist residencies, lecture demonstrations and teaching. About Rohan: Indian-American drummer and composer Rohan Krishnamurthy imagines new artistic intersections to bridge diverse cultures and communities. Acclaimed a “musical ambassador” by The Times of India, Rohan’s cross-genre artistry draws from his study of Indian classical Carnatic music and expanding it across global genres. He received mridangam training from maestro Sri. Guruvayur Dorai in India for over a decade, and studied drum set with Alan Hall at the California Jazz Conservatory. With a Ph.D. in musicology from the Eastman School of Music in New York. He has presented rhythm masterclasses and courses at renowned institutions, including Eastman, Harvard, Berklee College of Music, A.R. Rehman’s K.M. Conservatory of Music, Munich Conservatory, Kyoto University, and Percussive Arts Society. He directs the award-winning RohanRhythm Percussion Studio, which has attracted dozens of students from around the globe. An innovator, he patented the RohanRhythm drum tuning system, which is available worldwide. www.RohanRhythm.com About Drive East: Immerse yourself in the music and dance traditions of India - and enjoy their various permutations from artists across the globe.
