Rohan Krishnamurthy and Nitin Mitta weave fascinating interpretations of the Indian classical form with a unique rendition of a percussive musical jugalbandi, allowing the audience to witness the meeting of two cultures within India. About Rohan: Indian-American drummer and composer Rohan Krishnamurthy imagines new artistic intersections to bridge diverse cultures and communities. Acclaimed a “musical ambassador” by The Times of India, Rohan’s cross-genre artistry draws from his study of Indian classical Carnatic music and expanding it across global genres. He received mridangam training from maestro Sri. Guruvayur Dorai Music Centre in India for over a decade, and studied drum set with Alan Hall at the California Jazz Conservatory. With a Ph.D. in musicology from the Eastman School of Music in New York, he has presented rhythm masterclasses and courses at renowned institutions, including Eastman, Harvard, Berklee College of Music, A.R. Rehman’s K.M. Conservatory of Music, Munich Conservatory, Kyoto University, and Percussive Arts Society. He directs the award-winning RohanRhythm Percussion Studio, which has attracted dozens of students from around the globe. An innovator, he patented the RohanRhythm drum tuning system, which is available worldwide. About Nitin: Nitin Mitta is a sought after performer, having performed with some of India’s most celebrated Hindustani classical musicians, including Pandit Jasraj, Pandits Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Pandit Janardan Mitta, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee, Ustad Shahid Parvez and more. Nitin has also made a mark as a versatile collaborator, joining forces with 2010 Grammy Nominee Pianist Vijay Iyer and electric guitarist R. Prasanna to produce a studio album titled Tirtha, that blends elements of contemporary jazz with the North and South Indian traditional ragas and compositions. He also tours and perform with Juno award winner singer Kiran Ahluwalia. Nitin received his early training in Hyderabad from Pandit G. Satyanarayana and from Pandit Arvind Mulgaonkar of Mumbai. Both of Nitin's gurus are disciples of the late 'Doyen of Farrukhabad' - Tabla Maestro Ustad Amir Hussain Khan-Documentary About Rohan Prabhudesai: Rohan has been studying Hindustani classical, western classical and jazz for the past 20 years. He began his training in Indian Hindustani classical music on the harmonium on one of his trips to India at the Goa Kala Academy. Later, he continued this musical pursuit under the guidance of Dr. Kedar Naphade, a senior disciple of Pt. Tulsidas Borkar. At the same time he started learning harmonium, he studied classical piano with Mr. Edwin Lopez, the concert master and conductor of Crescent Avenue Presbyterian church music program. He has studied classical contemporary composition at NYU Steinhardt and Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.
