Zakir Hussain is appreciated both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large as an international phenomenon and one of the greatest musicians of our time. A classic tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have established him as a national treasure in his own country, India. Along with his father and teacher, Ustad Allarakha, he has elevated the status of his instrument both in India and around the world. Widely recognized as chief architect of the world music movement, his playing is marked by uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity, founded in formidable knowledge and study. With many historic collaborations including Shakti, which he founded with John McLaughlin and L. Shankar, Remember Shakti, Planet Drum with Mickey Hart, and Masters of Percussion, his contributions to world music have made him one of India’s reigning cultural ambassadors. Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh has been captivating audiences around the world for 30 years and is one of the leading Veena artists today. Blending the traditional and innovative in her music in terms of content, technique, virtuosity and expression, Jayanthi seeks to express the true voice of the veena, which transcends the boundaries of language and region. Maestro Kala Ramnath with her "Singing Violin" stands among the world's finest, most inspirational instrumentalists. Due to her rigorous training in the Hindustani classical tradition and familiarity with the Karnatic classical tradition she comfortably forges musical alliances with renowned artists from different genres around the globe incorporating elements of Western Classical, Jazz, Flamenco and traditional African music into her rich and varied repertoire.
