    Navatman Dance presents "For the Joy of Dance", a group production in the traditional Bharatanatyam format with live music Navatman Dance (Bharatanatyam) is led by artistic director Sahasra Sambamoorthi as an Indian classical dance company based in New York City whose mission is to bring extraordinary, boundary-pushing productions to the stage, making Indian classical music and dance more accessible to both understand and experience without removing the beauties of tradition and history that the style has developed from. Catch them at Drive East on Tuesday, Aug. 14th, 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. Navatman Dance is led by artistic director Sahasra Sambamoorthi as an Indian classical dance company (specifically stemming from bharatanatyam) based in New York City whose mission is to bring extraordinary, boundary-pushing productions to the stage, making Indian classical dance more accessible to both understand and experience without removing the beauties of tradition and history that the style has developed from. Founded in 2008, this dance company has toured both locally and internationally. Artistic director Sahasra Sambamoorthi has been the recipient of the New Jersey Folk Arts Apprenticeship Award and also has been noted as a 'young trailblazer' on the crest of the wave leading us towards a new understanding of South Asian arts in the United States Drive East (driveeastnyc.org) is an expansive Indian dance and music festival that features 30+ concerts in just two week. In its sixth year, our week long festival will be in New York from August 13 - 19 and San Francisco from August 22 - 26. It is a festival that regularly features some of the best artists of the year from all over the globe(last year The New York Times mentioned two Drive East artists as the top 10 of 2017) and is an immersive experience into the world of Indian classical arts. Whether you are a seasoned patron or interested in learning more, there is an experience for everyone in this extraordinary festival.
