Bhangra Blowout 26 will be held on April 6th, 2019 at the Lisner Auditorium in Foggy Bottom, Washington, DC. Bhangra is an exhilarating, beat-intensive music and folk dance style, originating hundreds of years ago in the Punjab region of South Asia. The dance is traditionally performed as a celebration during occasions such as Vaisakhi (the beginning of the harvest), weddings, birthdays, and other auspicious events. This art form has become a force of South Asian expression in the United States with both independent and collegiate teams performing and competing throughout the nation. Our competition, Bhangra Blowout, is the oldest intercollegiate bhangra competition in the country and stands as one of the largest South Asian dance competitions in the country. As an entirely student-run event, it is the product of copious hard work from members of The George Washington University’s South Asian Society. Each year, Bhangra Blowout supports a charity to which a portion of the proceeds from the show goes. This year, the board has chosen to support Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation, and its mission of fighting for children have the fundamental right to be safe, healthy and educated in order to realize their potential. This year we are very excited to have 8 amazing collegiate teams from around the country compete. Our 8 Competing Teams: Bruin Bhangra CMU Bhangra Cornell Bhangra Da Real Punjabiz Illini Bhangra The Michigan Bhangra Team UNC Bhangra Elite Virginia Di Shaan at UVA In addition to our competing teams, Bhangra Blowout 26 will feature performances from: GW Bhangra Virginia School of Bhangra For our 26th anniversary, we are proud to announce our headliner act for the show: Ashok Prince
