ATMA is a healthcare related charitable organization, started in 2005. While ATMA was founded by US Physicians and allied healthcare professionals trained in medical schools in Tamil Nadu India; the membership now includes physicians of Tamil origin trained in any medical school in the world, including healthcare professionals in the US who are children of a parent/parents of Tamil origin. We currently have about 850 members and the membership is growing. ATMA members have a need to give back to Tamil Nadu and help humanity in general.
ATMA-CF, is our charitable foundation that has funded health education, preventive services, facility building etc. in Tamil Nadu, India . We also promote charitable activity in the US and participate by donating time and money for disaster relief. We conduct health screenings, fund construction of healthcare facilities and promote health education to service the under-served populations.
ATMA also is involved in healthcare education of medical professional through their Continuing Medical Education seminars in the US and in Tamil Nadu, India. ATMA is actively interacting with physicians and healthcare professionals in Tamil Nadu, India for educational exchange for students, residents, post-graduates and faculty.
We are now trying to improve emergency medical services in Tamil Nadu, a huge project to be accomplished in the long run. This includes EMT training, ambulances, Trauma level designations for hospital, establishing post-graduate level training in Emergency Medicine etc. We are trying to work with stake holders in Tamil Nadu and do what is actually needed, not what we think they need.
We accomplish the above activities primarily through generous donations of our members. We work with other charitable organizations and NGOs as needed.
