RU Natya is Rutgers University's first and only Indian classical dance team. Founded in 2008, Natya has continued bringing together various forms of Indian classical dance to university, state and national audiences. The dedicated team strives to maintain the traditional aspects of these ancient dance forms while mixing it with contemporary innovation. RU Natya gives a lot of importance to preserving the lessons of their Gurus. Natya has received great recognition and appreciation from its audiences, winning awards at national competitions, placing first consistently for the last 3 years, and performing in showcases and productions across the Tri-State Area. In February 2012, RU Natya was featured in the New York Times for preserving Indian classical dance in a modernizing culture, and bringing this experience to the collegiate circuit. With passion, tradition and dedication, RU Natya hopes to continue preserving the integrity of the Indian classical arts.
