    For over 44 years now Usha Uthup has spread a message of love and unity, peace and harmony, tolerance and integrity, and happiness - through music. From discotheques to concerts, across lndia and the World, she has addressed the youth about the values of music that makes us human. She has sung and performed in more than sixteen lndian languages and everywhere she has had audiences participate in singing along and the spirit of her music has not been restricted by lingual or geographical boundaries. She lives as she believes, presenting even the most contemporary songs dressed in traditional attire projecting the fact that lndia is a true melting pot of world cultures with its owndistinctive cultural identity. Ambassador for Traditional lndian values Born in 1947 Usha Uthup, or Didi ,as she is fondly called, comes from a traditional middle class South lndian family. Her father was a policeman, who rose to become Deputy Commissioner of police, Bombay. Her mother, a simple, yet well read, inteliigent Indian housewife. Her elder sisters, lndira and Uma, were the famous singing Sami sisters. Her father-in-law Brigadier C.C. Uthup, of the Sikh Regiment received the prestigious A.V.S.M. award, from president V.V.Giri in 1973. Her career began in 1969 at a Chennai nightclub called Nine Gems and she has recorded more than a hundred albums in seventeen lndian languages, sung in several thousand concerts, performed in all major countries and has been on television since its inception in lndia. Usha has served as a role model for generations of young lndians and has been an unwavering ambassador for traditional lndian values. She has always worn a sari (kanjeevaram), fresh flowers in her hair and her beaming smile has won her many fans.
