Bhangra is a form of Indian music and dance which originated in the state of Punjab. Dating back to the 11th century, Bhangra was traditionally performed by farmers to celebrate a successful harvest. Bhangra has gained popularity during the 20th century in North America, especially with college students who blend Bhangra, pop, and hip-hop music to create a very upbeat, catchy form of fusion expression that is not only fun but also representative of the multicultural identity of South Asian students.
